Flood Relief for Kasun’s Family

Kasun is a 16 year old boy studying for his G.C.E. (O level) exams at St. Mary’s College, Mattakkuliya.   His father is a street cleaner and mother a housewife.

They are a very very poor family and because the father’s daily wage cannot sustain the child’s education,  the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church in Mattakkuliya  funds his education.  They worship at the Baptist Church in Mattakkuliya of which the vicar is Rev. Yasaratne.

When the flooding happened, Rev. Yasaratne arranged for this family to be housed at the church premises for almost 1 week, until the water resided.

Kasun’s mother is having many ailments and was in hospital at the time the

Ahava Foundation came to their aid to build them a solid house with an attached

Toilet, thanks to the generosity of the Cornerstone City Church in Rochester, Kent.

This new home is being built adjacent to the present home/unit – so that they can use the former as a kitchen/extra room.   The picture below shows the half built walls of the new house.  (from left to right:  Mother, Father, Builder, Malkie (Ahava Board member) and Kasun the 16 yr old son.)
