Built a new home for kasun and family – August 2016

Kasun Lahiru and his family were compelled to leave their tiny one room home/shack  as a result of the terrible flood that ravaged their home in Hendala, Sri Lanka in June 2016.

Kasun, a 16 year old boy studying for his G.C.E. (O level) exams at St. Mary’s comes from an extremely poor family and because the father’s daily wage cannot sustain the child’s education,  the Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church in Mattakkuliya  funds his education.  When the terrible flooding happened, Rev. Yasaratne arranged for this family to be housed at the church premises for almost 1 week, until the water resided from inside their home.

Kasun’s mother was having many ailments and was in hospital at time the Ahava Foundation came to their aid to build them a solid home with an attached Toilet. This project was possible due to the generous donation of the Cornerstone City Church in Kent, UK, whop partnered with the Ahava Foundation in 2016.

This new home was built adjacent to the present home/unit – so that they can use the former as a kitchen/extra room. The pictures below show the half built walls of the new house as well as the completed house.
