Tube well project – Mahakubukkadawala, Puttalam, 10th April 2019

This rural village which is approx. 3 hours from Colombo and 30 minutes from the main road to Puttalam town, on a beaten off road track, is an area in Sri Lanka most prone to dry seasons and where pipe borne water is not available.

The people of this village have to buy drinking water and have to travel  long distances in order to fetch water for their daily needs.   It is in this  backdrop that the Ahava Foundation visited this village and an adjoining one to gain a first hand knowledge of their problems connected to the scarcity of water.  On a preliminary visit we were taken by the village head gramasevaka and shown  a location where there was a pre-school which was functioning.   However, he drew our attention to a new hospital building constructed  by the government over 3 years ago but due to lack of water was not operational.

In the light of the above information, this location was selected to dig a much needed tube well for the villagers, as over 500 people would benefit from this project once it was completed.

On the 10th of April 2019  the plan was put to implementation and a Tube well was constructed and gifted to the village folk of Mahakumbukkadawala, Puttalam, much to their  joy,  and at present, even the hospital could function with a supply line drawn from the tube well. Once again we thank and appreciate our precious partner C3 Church, Casey, Australia ,for their invaluable support in the work of our Foundation.
